How to play DRM-free Downpour audiobooks in another app

Downpour sells downloadable audiobooks, and much of its catalogue is DRM-free. Some publishers require protected files, however, so compatibility depends on the individual title.

Check whether the title is DRM-free

Downpour’s FAQ says that much of its content can be used across platforms, while protected titles play exclusively in Downpour’s apps.

Check the product information and your library before relying on a title for another player. If Downpour identifies it as protected or directs you to its app, use the Downpour app. Audely does not remove or bypass DRM.

Download the audiobook from your library

Sign in to Downpour and open your library. A purchased digital title shows a download button when it becomes available. Download the book and locate the resulting file or files in Finder.

Confirm that the download is ordinary audio in a format Audely supports. Keep every part together and preserve its track numbering and filenames.

Put the audiobook in a clear folder

Create one folder for the complete book. If it contains several tracks, keep their intended order visible in the metadata or filenames. An iCloud Drive folder can make the source visible to iPhone and iPad as well as Mac, but every device must download the complete audio before offline listening.

Add the folder to Audely

On iPhone or iPad, open Settings › Library, choose Add folder, and select the folder through Files. On Mac, open Audely › Settings › Library and choose Add folder.

Identify it as Audiobooks. Audely organises the supported audio as a book and parts while leaving the source files in the selected folder.
